He knows the stars by name

I recently stumbled across this poem which I started back in 2004.  I gave it a good, hearty revision from its schoolgirl vocabulary and format, but the same theme runs through the newly minted lines.  It seemed fitting for the Lenten/Easter season, so I decided to share it here:

Once upon an evening, when scores of celestial pin pricks
Illuminate the Masterpiece dancing dreamily to a silent song,
I, spellbound, survey the lyrics of hidden hope, the tale old as time.
This their peaceful proclamation, Word-written from the beginning:

“The One who spoke us alive abandons Heaven without hesitation
Bound by a mission of mercy to save the souls who broke His heart.
Those once-rulers of paradise, imprisoned by their own free will,
Defiantly return to dust without ever consulting the Creator-Christ,
Turning blind ears and deaf eyes to every echo of the eternal truth.
Our song of redemption lingers on, awaiting one whose ears can hear.”

But hark! Listen now to the angelic chorus,
Their tidings of joy are beginning anew:

“A lost one has recently found the Great Shepherd,
A new name inscribed in the Lifebook by the hand of the Lamb.
Again He has stomped on the head of the serpent,
One more soul has gained Heaven by choosing the Way.”

My gaze gradually dims, my eyes fill with happiness
As I continue to watch the stars dance their melody across the sky,
That endless expanse where all the stories of their Namer are written.
Then I savor the tears streaming down quite unhindered
Reminded once more: I am loved.
