Today Jonathan and I went out looking at wedding venues, and came back ENGAGED! I was so surprised! I knew he was going to propose sometime during break, but I truly didn't expect it when he did.
We started off after Jonathan and Dad met in the morning (I knew Jonathan was asking Dad, but still didn't think he would propose that day!) and headed for the mountains. We stopped on the way for lunch and then went to check out Table Rock Lodge, which was beautiful, albeit on the small side. Then we set out for Pretty Place at Camp Greenville, which involved a lot of driving down twisty roads, which actually went up into North Carolina and back down, causing us a lot of confusion, but in the end we found it. Along the way, though, we saw two hubcaps in the road, and I was trying to say we were hubcap dodging but it came out as Hudgecap Dobbing, which Jonathan found truly hilarious. We joked about it being the new term for what we were doing, but it was only later that I found out why Jonathan found that so funny!
When we finally made it to Pretty Place, Jonathan grabbed his camera bag (presumably to take pictures, although it didn't occur to me that he'd used his iphone at Table Rock instead) and we walked down into the chapel. From the back side it isn't all that great, but once you get inside the view is simply breathtaking. Jonathan snapped some pictures, but then his battery ran out and he went rummaging in his bag, making a comment about how pretty the view was. Unbeknownst to me he was getting out the ring box, and apparently I turned around while it was in plain sight, but I still didn't even see it. He came around behind me and to the side, knelt down and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes, although later he asked me if I had actually even said yes, apparently his mind was full of everything else going on! The ring was absolutely GORGEOUS. SOOOO excited!
We headed back down the mountain, forgetting to even take a picture of us there =( but realizing for certain as we left that the site really wouldn't work for our wedding. We went to Greenville and looked at the Gassaway Mansion, which was beautiful but beyond our budget, before going to dinner at a hibachi grill (which I found super exciting since I'd never eaten at one before) and then heading home to tell our news to our families. But, we did take a picture of the ring at dinner, so I'll post that.
