Although some of today was spent teaching writing lessons, the two main events of the day were meals: lunch and dinner. Yes, I know food is important for life and all, but there was a much more important reason for the emphasis on eating: spending time with people I love!
Round 1: a lunch date with Mom at Panchos in Central. I broke out of my shell and ordered lunch fajitas (which is Mom's typical order there, so I guess I didn't go too hyper on the shell breaking thing). It was so nice to just have time to sit and chat and catch up before I leave next week. I have enjoyed spending more time with Mom this summer, but it still feels sometimes like too little.
Round 2: making dinner with Rita and Jonathan for all of the Custer siblings minus Alfred (and of course Jonathan too!) while Mom and Dad were out on their date. Per Daniel's request we made Western Shrimp Noodle Casserole with regular egg noodles. For those who have yet to sample such delicate cuisine as WSNC, let me illuminate the corner where confusion may lie. This most exquisite delicacy is a compilation of everything comfort food: cheese, noodles, more starch (corn and breadcrumbs), shrimp (ok, well, maybe shrimp wouldn't be typically considered a comfort food, but it is comforting to me!), and mushrooms for good measure. It was delicious (if I do say so myself) and thoroughly enjoyed by all, as evidenced by the minute amount of leftovers from a double batch after only 6 people partook. We spent the rest of the evening hanging out with the kiddos and watching the Olympics while I painted Grace's toenails for her.
