Team Thursday

One thing I am enjoying about Thursdays is that our lead has switched her schedule to meet with the 5th grade team during our planning.  It is really awesome to be able to meet weekly as a team because it allows us to feel far more involved and up-to-date.  Since we no longer release early on Mondays, that time for meeting regularly no longer exists during the school day.

Right now, we are gearing up for Immigration Day, which we will hold the Friday after Halloween.  This was an idea that we started last year on Halloween, to give students a chance to have a change of pace.  They were allowed to dress up as immigrants from different countries and we created an experience where they entered the country through Ellis Island and had to pass different stations like health check, baggage claim, citizenship test, literacy test, etc, and also some informational stations learning about Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.  It was such a success we're doing it again this year, but we have moved the day to be on Friday just to make it easier and keep the week from being as heavily affected.
