You know what I mean...that feeling when you're overwhelmed and underwhelmed simultaneously. When you're awake and yet tired. When you want to be doing yet can't seem to get off of your chair. When life seems to not be quite what you were hoping that day. For that "blah" that creeps into each of our lives, I present:
Janet's Top 10 Ways to Avoid the "blah"
(Note: this list is not comprehensive, and is tailored to me... take it and make it your own!)
10. Clean something. You will always feel productive if you can see an improvement in your surrounding environment.
9. Find a way to exercise. Go for a walk, a swim, play some ultimate Frisbee...whatever suits your fancy.
8. Write a "snail mail" letter to a family member or friend who lives far away.
Tell how much you love and miss them, and just enjoy knowing that you're
going to bring a smile to a face when it arrives.
7. Play your favorite musical instrument. Improvise a melody or chord progression and see where it leads.
6. Read a good book. Go to the library, if necessary, to find one you haven't read before, or settle down with a familiar volume.
5. Knit something beautiful. Give it to someone who needs it more than you do.
4. Invite a friend to join you for coffee. Chat and catch up, but mostly just listen and see how God has been working in another person's life.
3. Listen to uplifting music...and sing along! Even if you're off key,
singing and thinking about the words is bound to make you smile!
2. Read your favorite chapter/verse in Scripture in multiple translations. Think about times it has been particularly meaningful in your own life. Memorize or just meditate on the passage and how it applies to your life currently.
1. Spend an hour in prayer. Focus on all of the blessings God has given
you in the past month. Praise Him. Worship Him. Thank Him. Confess
your shortcomings, and accept His unconditional forgiveness. Intercede
for friends and family members. Rest in the peace of the Father.
