The Journey

I am journaling some to keep up with things that happen.  I will post those journal entries (in part) and also other thoughts on the blog as I have time to update.

June 6, 10:00 am, Charlotte/Douglas International Airport

Well, we made it through security and to our terminal.  We have at least an hour before our plane begins boarding.  I am already missing people and my ability to text or call them, but I am getting excited about the trip (finally).  Our terminal is at the farthest end of the first concourse, and we can watch the planes taxiing for takeoff.  I will be thankful when we finally land in Rome and this leg of traveling is over.  However, I know that as much as I don't prefer to fly, this trip will be totally worth the inconvenience.  I pray that I would be able to encourage Alfred and truly enjoy the time I get to spend with him.

June 6, 3:00 pm, Newark Liberty International Airport

Here in Newark for our 3 hour layover before we depart for Rome.  I will NEVER travel without my cell phone again.  Even though it would be inconvenient to keep up with, I would rather deal with that than the hours of waiting in boredom and missing people.  Alfred and I will be going to walk about soon; I may take the opportunity to use the phone and my calling card from graduating high school.

June 7, 7:30 am, Roma Fiumicino Airport

SOOO thankful to be on the ground.  It is hard to sleep in an airplane, for sure!  Thankfully the crew was very kind and helpful.  Was able to see the Alps this morning as we flew across Europe.  Gorgeous!  As we arrive in the airport, I learn an interesting thing--customs procedures in Italy seem to be practically nonexistant.  Very weird to me, but I'm not complaining as it allows us to get to the trains more quickly and to our B&B.

June 7, 9:30 am, Home B&B

Federica, the proprietress is extremely kind and helpful.  We've already gotten a lot of good information about Rome from her, and looking forward to starting our journeys this morning.
