Today we will be going to visit the Borghese Museum/Gallery. We actually purchased these tickets ahead of time, so we will just need to pick them up by 1/2 hour before our entrance time. I love not being rushed in the mornings!
June 12, 11:45 am, park outside of Borghese Museum
As we walked down the avenue in the park, we heard the most intriguing sound. It sounded like someone playing classical Baroque music on an accordion. As we drew closer, I realized that is actually what it was! We have seen many different street performers during our time here, but this guy really outdid them all! Alfred and I sat and listened for probably almost 30 minutes since we had gotten to the Borghese early. It was so cool!

We had a 2 hour time slot to tour through the main floor exhibits and picture gallery. Just as we were ready to enter, I realized that I had somehow dropped the checked bag ticket and we had to go back to the restroom so I could hunt for it. Thankfully, God held it where it had dropped over 30 minutes earlier until I made my way back to find it. He is so kind.
Then we went to the upstairs picture gallery. There were a lot of different paintings from Madonnas with child to ancient mythological subjects. A lot of them were nude, which is definitely not my art preference, but there were a few pieces that I thought particularly well done. One was a painting of Moses bringing the 10 Commandments down the mountainside. The artist had made the background quite dark, and Moses' face was in a shadow, but somehow the picture still read as extremely lifelike. It was very cool.
Downstairs were a lot more statue galleries and some paintings. Again, plenty of nudity, which I really don't enjoy or appreciate. So, while there were a few pieces by Bernini that I found very well sculpted, and actually more modest than they could have been, I still glanced through rooms and then sat and waited for Alfred to finish his perusal on his own time.

Thankful for another afternoon without much to do. We picked up some food for dinner on the way back, as well as some fresh cherries, which we ate with PB&J for lunch. For dinner, the plan is microwaved baked potatoes and sausage from the local butcher. Alfred is also hoping to go tonight to see the Trevi Fountain after dark, but I will be staying here.
